Pairings716 is a violin and cello duo of musicians Amy Licata and Eva Herer, a pair who have followed very similar paths in life. Eva and Amy first met when they both attended The Curtis Institute of Music in the 1980s. They both studied with members of the Curtis String Quartet – Eva with Orlando Cole, and Amy with Jascha Brodsky. While at Curtis, Amy also studied with Aaron Rosand.

Eva left Philadelphia for Buffalo when she was awarded the position of assistant principal cello in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Amy followed a few years later, leaving Philadelphia to arrive in Buffalo when she joined the second violin section of the BPO.

Our work

Eva and Amy have played chamber music as well as orchestra music in the area extensively, and this is their latest endeavor to share music with the Buffalo community. There is a limited repertoire of violin and cello pieces, so they have created arrangements by pairing classical tunes with familiar songs, rearranged pieces in the tradition of a variation on a theme, and written new works to explore their virtuosity and friendship.

About us

The paths they have been on are so intertwined that they even lived in the same house for a while in Buffalo’s Elmwood Village, a neighborhood where they both still live, albeit now they are a few blocks apart and with their own families.
